Acas publish guidance on employment references

New guidance on references has been published by employment relations body, Acas.

This guidance sets out a number of useful points for both employers and employees relating to the provision of references, including:

  • the circumstances in which an employer is required to provide a reference;

  • what a reference can include;

  • whether there are occasions when an employer can give a bad reference; and

  • the options available to job applicants who are unhappy with references provided.
