New employment tribunal statistics for the quarter April to June 2018 have recently been published by the Ministry of Justice. Of note:
The number of single claims lodged during this period increased by 165% compared with the same period in 2017, and the number of multiple claims increased by 344% (we understand that this sharp increase was due to a large multiple airline claim being commenced during this period).
Between the date the fee refund scheme was introduced in October 2017 up to 30 June 2018, there were 12,400 refund payments made, with a total value exceeding £10.6 million.
Claims for disability discrimination had the largest average award (approximately £30,700), and religious discrimination the lowest (approximately £5,100). The average award for unfair dismissal claims was just over £15,000.
