On 30 June 2025, the Low Pay Commission closed its consultation on potential reforms to the National Minimum and Living Wage.

Key proposals include raising the National Living Wage (NLW) to between £12.50 and £12.80/hour by 2026 and extending this to 18–20-year-olds (currently £10/hr).

The government's intention is to introduce higher wages for young people, but in her piece for Employee Benefits magazine, Constantine Law Senior Associate, Eleanor Rogers argues that the removal of age wage bands could instead lead to employers favouring more experienced staff who (they may believe) will do a better job for the same wage.
