Company faces backlash after pre-recorded layoff video: Alan Lewis comments in People Management

Australian tech giant Atlassian is under scrutiny after its CEO Mike Cannon-Brookes delivered news of 150 job cuts via a pre-recorded video on 30 July.
While impacted staff were promised generous severance packages, had this happened in the UK, this would potentially have breached UK redundancy laws if the video announcement had bypassed legally mandated consultations.
Commenting on the company's actions, Constantine Law partner, Alan Lewis believes "the announcement via a pre-recorded video could break statutory requirements to collectively consult with trade union representatives or elected employee representatives.”
