The number of people employed in HR has grown in recent years, with HR roles now outnumbering doctors and lawyers in the UK, prompting The Sunday Times to ask in its recent article: what is behind this growth and what is HR really for?
Managing Partner, John Hayes, commented to The Sunday Times that the growth in HR was not because of the introduction of the Equality Act 2010, which he sees as "essentially a codification and consolidation of existing anti-discrimination law in this country", but more likely a result of "employees (who) are more educated, more aware of their rights".
