Constantine Law is  delighted to share the news that our leading specialist employment  partner, Will Clayton, has celebrated his fifth anniversary with the firm by achieving one of the highest value pre-trial settlements of the year for an individual in a discrimination case, on behalf of his client, a leading City trader.

This hard-fought dispute began in 2023 and concerned claims of sex discrimination, victimization, equal pay and whistleblowing.  The most valuable of the disputed claims being a dispute over the employer’s discretionary bonus awards which Will argued were discriminatory - consistently lower in value than those received by the male comparator. Constantine Law instructed leading employment Counsel, Daphne Romney KC.

The case was scheduled for a lengthy trial at London Central Employment Tribunal later this autumn, and had already been the subject of multiple contested preliminary hearings. Remarkably, just before the major trial preparations were about to commence, Will and Daphne represented our client at a Judicial Mediation and secured one of the most significant financial settlements in this firm’s history.

Will commented, “Although the parties involved can’t be named for confidentiality reasons, this was a thoroughly well-deserved outcome  for my client who had  endured years of stress and uncertainty and whose health was significantly impacted by this dispute with her employers.  A seven figure pre-trial settlement such as this, for an individual, is a rarity.   I am so pleased for my client who no longer has to deal with the additional stress, risks and costs of a lengthy trial and can focus on her recovery to good health.

Will continues to be the go-to expert for high value discrimination, harassment and whistleblowing disputes involving senior executives. He previously successfully represented Adeline Willis in her high-profile disability discrimination case, also  at the London Central Employment Tribunal, against NatWest after she was dismissed from her job, two days after undergoing surgery for bowel cancer.   That much publicized ‘David v Goliath’ victory resulted in Will being named The Times Lawyer of the Week.

John Hayes, Managing Partner at Constantine Law said, “At Constantine Law, we are very proud to have Will as part of our team as we continue to grow from strength to strength. The case demonstrates why this firm is so highly regarded, having been up against one of London’s largest law firms, as we often are, and achieving another very successful outcome for our client. Well done Will!
